21st September – Harvest Lunch

In September we held a Harvest Lunch to celebrate the Harvest Festival. This was the first time we have held a Harvest Lunch in the church. The pews were turned to face each other and a table placed between. The afternoon started with a hymn, prayer, poem and grace. We then stopped to eat a ploughman’s and have a glass of wine or juice. Once everyone had finished eating the service concluded with a short reading, prayer and a hymn.

It was so nice to see so many people and many comments were made about how pleasant the afternoon had been, with some asking if a similar event could be held. The long pews are extremely heavy, so I think perhaps just once a year! The donations towards the meal covered costs and a small amount was taken for the church. Thank you to all those who joined us and to Nicki for her help with laying out the food.

Everyone enjoying a chat afterwards.

Table in the process of being set up. Still missing red Leicester cheese, bread rolls, a bottle of wine and glasses.

July

13th July – Cream Teas

THANK YOU.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Cream Teas yesterday.

It was a great success, raising over £700 for the church.

This would not be possible without the volunteers who help putting up the tents, moving tables/chairs, making scones, serving the cream teas, delivering them to the tables, selling raffle tickets, donating raffle prizes and doing the washing up. We really appreciate your help.

Also thank you to Philip and Caroline for the use of your house and garden and also William and Kate for the use of the large tent. Thanks to the choir for a lovely afternoon of songs too.

March

Coffee Morning March 29th

Thank you to all who came and supported our Coffee Morning. It was a great morning and the Reading Room was full of chatter. There was a large selection of cakes etc. We raised £100 from donations.

February

The NightChurch Pianist Concert

We would like to thank everyone who came and supported The NightChurch Pianist concert at the end of February.

The evening was started off with half an hour of harmony singing by the group Kessenyan. This was followed by a short break for wine and nibbles. In the second half, Rhys, the NightChurch Pianist played a huge range of music, including classical, modern pop, theme tunes and a very impressive recital of all the countries in the world, all the elements in the periodic table and pi to one hundred decimal places. There was also a segment where he used flash cards to go with various songs, which was extremely funny. Just before he played his last piece, Bohemian Rapsody, he gave a heart felt talk on what it was like to live on the streets, being homeless. I think everyone was very moved, especially when he told us about a thirteen-year-old crying on his shoulder and said “no child should be on the streets like this”.

What a fantastic evening and from what people are saying, it was enjoyed by all.

The proceeds from ticket sales and entry on the night, are all going to the NightChurch, Penzance and Centrepoint. So far Rhys has raised over £120,000 for charity. The church made a small profit from the refreshments, enough to pay for the extra electricity used.

We wish Rhys well with his record that is currently being recorded and hope he will come back again in the future.
